Strong-Ty™ Kynar® cable ties made from PVDF are ideal for environments where combinations of high temperature, corrosion, radiation or mechanical stress limit other materials. These cable ties are durable and resist abrasion and mechanical damage during and after installation. With minimal flame-spread and smoke-generation Strong-Ty™ cable ties meet the National Electrical Code (NFPA-70A) and UL94V-0 requirements for installation in building plenum.

One of the advantages of PVDF is that it strengthens upon exposure to ionizing radiation. This also makes the cable ties an excellent choice for Medical applications where parts are exposed to a Cobalt 60 source for the purpose of sterilization.

UV EXPOSURE made possible by Kynar® PVDF - Strong-Ty™ cable ties are made from 100% Kynar® PVDF and provide the maximum available service life for outdoor wire management in Long Term UV Exposure and Photovoltaic Fields / Solar Farms. Other Standard Nylon and Polyethylene cable ties can fail in a matter of months due to UV exposure and temperature extremes, Read More below in our Additional Information area.

In addition to excellent chemical resistance, Kynar PVDF is also rated for flame resistance. These cable ties would also be an excellent choice for bundling wire cables in plenum spaces, automobiles and airplanes.

Unlike PA66 (nylon), Kynar PVDF will not burn in environment with less than 40% oxygen and does not suffer from the effects of water absorption.

Excellent resistance to radiation allows sterilization of Strong-Ty™ Kynar® cable ties for high-purity applications without loss of mechanical properties. Strong-Ty™ Kynar® cable ties are manufactured and packaged in a clean room according to ISO 13485 procedures. Made with one-piece construction and a curved tip, our PVDF cable ties are easy to use and provide consistent and reliable performance.

Strong-Ty™ cable ties are medical grade quality, meet USP Class VI requirements and are available in a natural unpigmented PVDF for high-purity applications.

Strong-Ty™ Cable Ties: Long-term UV Exposure made possible by Kynar® PVDF


Current PV installations have a 25-year life expectancy. However, the nylon and polyethylene cable ties can fail in a matter of months due to UV exposure and temperature extremes. The possibility of failure makes a system-wide inspection of cable ties a constant requirement in order to prevent ground fault failures. Fortunately, there is a better choice for long-term PV cable ties


The use of Strong-Ty™ cable ties made from Kynar® PVDF is a better choice for PV wire and cable management. Accelerated UV exposure under a Xenon arc for 5000 hours in addition to five years of Florida sun exposure shows no change in mechanical or chemical properties in several varieties of the Kynar® copolymers. This data was recently presented by Arkema at the 2017 National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) PV Reliability Workshop. A portion of the presentation is available below.


Photovoltaic Field Wiring


Based on the simple calculations, UV radiation should not provide sufficient energy to break the chemical bonds found in most commodity plastics such as polyethylene and nylon. However, embrittlement and loss of tensile strength occurs in these materials and is thought to be the result of chemical impurities or structural defects. These irregularities along the polymer chain absorb energy and initiate polymer degradation. Kynar® PVDF shows no effect or change after long-term UV exposure.


An example of Kynar® PVDF performance under constant UV exposure is a PVDF coating system for metal roofs called Kynar® 500. One coating applicator, Metal Sales, offers a 25-year warranty against colour fade and chalking and a 45-year warranty against blistering, cracking and peeling. This same company only provides a 25-year warranty on the steel substrate against rupture, perforation or structural failure. More confidence in plastic than steel
